We are a group of regular people who have answered a call to serve as urban missionaries.

SUPPORT TEAM

SHAWN JAMES

Executive Director

Growing up in Malvern Shawn found himself asking his church, “What are you doing to save kids like me?” When the response was a resounding, “What are you going to do about it, Shawn?” a light bulb turned on and he accepted the challenge. Shawn joined us back in 2001 and has helped lead our team to where we are today. Shawn enjoys running and spending time with his wife Alison and their two young children.

PETER KENTIE

Director, Finance and Operations

Peter was serving as a student ministries pastor in his hometown of Port Colborne when his life was completely shaken up. He moved to the big city, where he and his wife Lynda started with us in 2004. Peter’s ability to connect with others has helped lead many amazing individuals to our team and is passionate about helping dynamic young leaders realize their potential. Peter loves Pepsi, Buffalo wings, and the Buffalo Bills.

CHRISTINE LEE

Church Partnerships

Christine had her first glimpse of us while leading her church’s Mission Team in 2001 and joined us as a staff member 5 years later. She has a heart for the families we work with; listening to their stories and pointing them to Christ. She desires to see people from churches join our mission - either as a volunteer, mission team, or donor. She enjoys taking ridiculously long walks with her family, sketching, and watching things grow in her garden.

STEPHANIE MCBRIDE

Director, Staff Care & Development

Stephanie began her missionary journey on the streets of Philadelphia, which brought her here in our early days to help us build and grow. She is passionate about equipping missionaries with useful resources, as well as creating community and healthy rhythms of soul care for our team. Stephanie loves using her home for hospitality, gardening, and cycling class.

SUSAN TAM

Office Administrator

With a wealth of ministry and administrative experience, Susan plays a vital role on our team! She has a heart for praying for others and seeing people come to know Christ, and finds joy in seeing how details, numbers, and office organization can support the work being done on the front lines of our communities. Susan is a lover of nature, and enjoys watching her sons explore and discover their world as they grow. She also enjoys hot cups of tea alongside her coffee-loving husband.

TRICIA WRIGHT

Director, Resource Development

Tricia has an infectious enthusiasm for Jesus, people, pretty things, and clever words. She has been referred to as ‘the gatherer of people around a table’ because of her love of cooking and her family’s enjoyment of sharing meals with others. Tricia sees creativity as just another one of God’s gifts that He entrusts us with to build His Kingdom. She’s always asking herself, ‘What is in my hand that I can use?’

CAMP HOPE

JULIUS NAREDO

Community Director

Julius is well known as “Kuya”, which means “big brother”. This title is a solid representation of his role within the community of Warden Woods.  Since joining our team, he has been an important role model for many youth, and has used his passions for sports, technology, and comics to bring the community together.  In his spare time, he loves exploring coffeshops in Toronto, Muay Thai, and is well connected both online and off.

AYESHA MADDEN

Ministry Supervisor

We've known Ayesha since she was a young girl in our After School Program. She's stuck close to UPT ever since, and decided to join us as full-time staff. Ayesha is passionate about fashion, singing, acting and helping others; all of which she has used to tell the community of Warden Woods about Christ. She spends her 'spare' time sewing prom dresses, rehearsing with her theater group, and laughing constantly.

CAMP VICTORY

CHRIS JONG

Community Director

As a teenager, Chris first began his journey at UPT on a missions trip, and knew right away that God had more in store for Him to see here. He loves walking alongside the kids and youth of Rexdale in all the highs and lows of life, reminding them often that [our] camp is family. Chris loves sharing food with others, and is a die hard fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, which has helped him better understand the way God loves us despite how many times we hurt Him.

JANELLE JONG

Ministry Supervisor

With a background in community service work, Janelle came to us as a summer intern in 2012, which led to her join our team as a ministry supervisor. She enjoys helping kids and youth experience new things, in themselves and the world around them, and is passionate about discipling young people in the Rexdale community into courageous followers of Christ. Janelle loves running, coffee, and spending time with her kids.

SARAH BABULAL

Ministry Supervisor

Sarah grew up in the Rexdale area, and has a background in Youth Ministry, Music, and Child & Youth work. She is passionate about walking alongside children and youth, while mentoring, discipling, and sharing the love of Christ with them. She also enjoys using her creative abilities in music and art to reach the children and youth and giving them opportunities for creative expression. Sarah loves music, singing/song-writing, travelling,
and exploring unique little coffee shops and venues. She’s always up for an adventure, and is
very excited to see all God has in store!

CAMP TRUTH

KELLY STOUFFER

Community Director

Kelly's background as an athlete led her into sports ministry and eventually to us in 2005. She has a heart for letting kids be kids and seeing young leaders discover and use their gifts to make an impact in younger kids’ lives in the Glamorgan community. She enjoys staying active, an avid shoe collector of Jordan’s & Nike’s, and is a hardcore fan of the Toronto Raptors (yet does not mind jumping on the bandwagon for other Toronto teams!).

JEFFREY NG

Ministry Supervisor

Jeff was attending seminary when God called him to our team. With a passion for children and youth, his creativity and innovative spirit has been used to tell the Glamorgan community about the hope they can have in Christ. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, deep dish pizza, badminton and all sorts of games (both boardgames and videogames!)
